Honda recall 250,000 vehicles around the world most of which are located in the United States to repair the damage that can interfere with braking, the Japanese automaker said.
Honda said it has received several complaints about problems with "stability assist system" which is a system that helps stabilize the vehicle when maneuvering, but no accidents or injuries were reported.
The company found the system can fail and "apply a small amount of brake power for a split second, without any input from the driver," Honda said in a statement.
If the driver braking at "stability assist system" fails "the amount of brake force applied could exceed -- input of the driver." "In other respects, unexpected brake activation could increase the risk of accidents," said Honda.
The recall affects 101,000 vehicles in the U.S. Honda Pilot, Acura MDX 60,000 vehicles and 21,000 vehicles from model 2005 Acura RL along with 800 vehicles from the 2006 model Acura MDX.
Honda recall smaller in other markets will bring the total withdrawal to 249,686 vehicles, a Honda spokesman told AFP on Thursday (14/3).
